On Friday October 2, 2009, dr A.T. (Ans) van der Ploeg, appointed as extraordinary professor of Peadiatrics, in particular lysosomal storage disorders at the ErasmusMC, Faculty of Erasmus University Rotterdam, on behalf of the Prinses Beatrix Fonds, will publicly accept her appointment with an inaugural lecture entiteled:
“finding a cure for rare diseases. A centre of excellence for unique metabolic disorders.”
This centre of excellence, also known as The Pompe Center, is an initiative of researchers and clinicians of the Erasmus University, the Sophia Children's Hospital, and the Academic Hospital, united in the Erasmus MC, Rotterdam. It is aimed to function as a center of expertise in the field of lysosomal storage disorders. In this role the Center will be active in generating, collecting and forwarding of information that it considers important for the well-being of patients and for the understanding of lysosomal storage disorders in all its molecular, clinical and therapeutic aspects.
