The Dutch Scientific Organization has awarded a grant to Dr. Dirk J. Lefeber, (UMC St Radboud) entitled “High-resolution glycoprofiling in human medicine” for innovative nanoLC- mass-spectrometry equipment.
This technology forms an essential extension of the current infrastructure and enables highly sensitive and detailed fingerprinting of many different glycan classes as present on proteins and lipids in body fluids or cells. Changes in the glycosylation of proteins and lipids are associated with a growing variety of disorders, including inherited glycosylation disorders. The resulting information will contribute to the knowledge on glycosylation –related neuromuscular disorders like hereditary inclusion body myopathy (HIBM) and the dystroglycanopathies.
