Catharina (Karin) Faber is a neurologist at Department of Neurology of the Maastricht University Medical Centre Maastricht (MUMC), Maastricht, the Netherlands. She had her medical training at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands (1984-1991). In 2000, she was the first fellow ‘Neuromyology’, (MUMC and UMC Utrecht; prof.dr. J.H.J. Wokke), supported by the Prinses Beatrix Fonds. At the MUMC her focus is on neuromuscular disorders, with special interest in myotonic dystrophy, non-dystrophic myotonias, and small fibre neuropathy. Research into neuromuscular disorders targets neuropathy, with a focus on small fibre neuropathy. Clinimetric aspects (outcome measures) are the goal of a other neuropathy studies (Perinoms), in which she is involved in close collaboration with prof. van Doorn and dr. I. Merkies. There is a clear link to translational research.
Secondly, there is a line of research into myotonic dystrophy, where clinical research is taking place into cardiomyopathy, dysrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, which also includes a translational part.
